If you are interested in participating in any of these events you can also do a Google search on the event and location you are hoping to compete. Local newspapers and Craigslist.org are two additional resources we recommend.
Also keep in mind that while it is recommended that you participate in an organized event (since the impending date will keep your training focused), it is not necessary to participate in an organized event. For example, you can opt to run 13.1 miles on your own one weekend instead of participating in an organized half-marathon. Also remember that only a small majority of the people participating are doing so as a competition, so don't feel overwhelmed if you don't feel like you are the fastest or the best. Having fun is the most important aspect of these events.- 10k Road Race
